What are our core values?

We believe that Tarot is a tool to engage life, not escape it. We teach methods of Tarot to divine your life, and make your way better through it - understanding more along the way.

We do not teach Tarot to pass the time nor distract you from real-world issues.

We are passionate but not obsessed with our Tarot, we learn and teach it deeply but are open to new opinions. We are focused but friendly, supportive but challenging.

Our Tarosophy® is for living life!

Tarot Association

Tarosophist of the Year Award 2009

Tarosophist of the Year Trophy by Ciro Marchetti

Each year, our members will nominate individuals for the Tarosophist of the Year award. This award is given to those taking Tarot to whole new levels of innovative development, to a new audience, or otherwise promoting Tarot in a positive, engaging and informed manner.

This first year the Award has been given by autocratic decision to TWO recipents, who have both kindly accepted the LIFE-TIME MEMBERSHIP of Tarot Professionals which accompanies the award and the receipt of our uniquely-designed Tarosophist of the Year animated Trophy.

The Tarosophist of the Year Award(s) for 2009 go to:

EMILY E. AUGER, PhD

For outstanding work on proposing and editing a 2-volume academic anthology, Tarot in Popular Culture, currently in review for publication.

&

CIRO MARCHETTI

For design and production of the first animated and soundtracked Tarot deck, the Tarot of the Divine Legacy.

Emily E. Auger (PhD) has graduate degrees in both History in Art and English Literature (U of Victoria) and has taught art history in Canadian and American universities for over twenty years. Her previous monographs include The Way of Inuit Art: Aesthetics in and Beyond the Arctic (2005) and Tarot and Other Mediation Decks: History, Theory, Aesthetics (2004). She contributed a paper on Arthurian Tarot to the anthology King Arthur in Popular Culture (2002) and has published papers on the Lord of the RIngs' Tarot and on interlace in Alan Lee's Lord of the Rings' illustrations in the Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts (2008), as well as genre and Pre-Raphaelitism in Lady Audley's Secret, Grand Manner aesthetics in film, and other subjects.

She is also a regular participant in the annual Popular Culture Association / American Culture Association conference as both an area chair and presenter.

Emily's encouragement of my own work and meticulous editing and generous suggestions have been a personal blessing, and I am more than happy to make this decision and recognise a voice in Tarot that like many of the best workers, is "hidden in the workshop".

Ciro Marchetti (Florida) is an award-winning artist from the United Kingdom. He studied art in London, followed by a career working in Europe and South America before settling in the United States where he opened a design agency in Miami. In addition to managing his company, Ciro also gives workshops and lectures on digital imagery and illustration at the Fort Lauderdale Art Institute, and continues to create his own visionary art and Tarot decks, including the Gilded Tarot and the Tarot of the Divine Legacy.

Ciro also contributed his time to design the Trophy, without knowing he would be a recipient of the Award itself, in his usual generous manner!
